Inflation And Food Prices 2021

shopping inflation and meat prices 2021

This is not a creative blog post but I felt compelled to post about my experience with meat purchases recently and to issue a warning to you that some companies might be taking advantage of this whole inflation and food shortages situation and you should be carefully checking prices and searching for the best deals right now.

I make bone broth, not to drink it (like some do), but for soups and stews. I make it and freeze it so I can just throw it and some meat and veggies in a pot or the slow cooker and have a healthy yummy meal.

I found out that Ox tails are good for bone broth and I happened to see them at our local Kroger (I rarely buy meat from Kroger) so I grabbed a couple packages. The packages were 1.5lbs and the cost was 18.00$ rounded. I thought it was outrageous but I wanted to give them a try so I sucked it up and bought them.

Kroger carries bones you can use for bone broth but they aren't the good marrow bones so I went over to our local grass fed beef supplier grocery store. I consider this to be a specialty type store and would expect higher prices. I asked about Ox tails and they had them. 1.8lbs were less than 8$ I felt so violated!

I also looked at organic hamburger meat at Kroger although I didn't buy any because a 1lb package was 10$ (shocked look)

When I went to the local meat supplier they had organic ground beef for 7.49$

I decided to make a detour home and went by Costco (where I normally buy meat) and check their current prices. Organic ground beef there was just over 5$

I have casually looked at meat at Kroger here and there and ever since they started this scarcity inflation crap I've been more focused on what's happening with prices and I check prices often and I am here to tell you if you are shopping at Kroger, you are getting ripped off! You could probably find a butcher shop or local ranch market and pay half the price!

Hope this helps!

How To Make Brown Sugar
How To Make Brown Sugar

May 05, 2022

Making brown sugar is easy, more healthy and believe it or not, making it at home it lasts longer! I used to have to run to the store and buy brown sugar when I decided I wanted to make something that required it. I would put the remaining brown sugar in a jar with a sealed lid and when I would go to get it, it would be a solid rock! Really annoying because then I was off to the store to buy more brown sugar!
